Privacy Policy
What Dappling collects, why, who it’s shared with, and the choices you have.

The short version
- Dappling is for sharing your day with one person you choose. What you add to shared spaces is visible to them.
- We collect only what the app needs to work: your account, your day, what you share with your partner, and what’s needed to send notifications.
- We don’t sell your data, don’t show ads, and don’t track you across other apps.
- Insights are written from summary numbers about how your day is split across focus areas. Your task names, notes and photos are never sent for this.
- You can delete your account in the app at any time, under Profile → Delete account.
Who we are
Dappling is operated by Sumit Sharma, an individual developer based in India. For this policy, Sumit Sharma is the party responsible for your personal data (the “Data Fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023). Contact: teamdappling@gmail.com.
What we collect

We don’t ask for your location, contacts, health data or payment details.
Device permissions
Dappling asks for your camera and photo library only when you choose to share a Moment, and for notifications so we can send reminders. You can turn any of these off in your phone’s settings; the related features will stop working.
How we use your data
- To provide the app: your day, your partner’s day, Moments, lists and notes
- To send notifications you’ve allowed, such as gentle focus nudges and alerts when your partner shares something
- To create Insights about the balance of your day
- To keep the service safe and working, for example by limiting how fast uploads can happen and investigating errors
- To reply when you contact us
- To meet legal obligations
We use your data only for these purposes. We don’t use it for advertising, and we don’t sell or rent it to anyone.
Insights and AI
Insights suggest ways to balance your day. To write them, we may send an AI provider (OpenAI) a summary of your day: how many tasks and minutes fall into each focus area, an overall balance level, and your free time slots. We don’t send your task names, notes, photos, your name or your email. If the AI service isn’t available, the app uses built-in suggestions instead.
Who we share it with
Your partner. When you connect, your partner can see the things you add to shared spaces in Dappling. That’s the point of the app, so share only what you’re comfortable with them seeing.
Service providers who help us run Dappling. They process data only on our instructions:

Legal reasons. We may disclose data if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Dappling.
Nobody else. We don’t share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
Where your data is stored
Our providers may store and process data on servers outside India. When they do, we rely on their security commitments and contractual protections, and we transfer data only as the law allows.
How long we keep it
- While your account is active, we keep the data you’ve added so the app keeps working.
- Invite codes are deleted automatically 15 minutes after they’re created.
- Photo links in the app are temporary and expire shortly after they’re shown.
- When you delete your account, we delete your profile, plans, tasks, lists, notes, Moments and their photos, and your notifications, and we disconnect you from your partner. Server logs and backups are cleared on their normal cycle.
- Some things you did together, like This or That answers, may stay in your partner’s history. Email us if you’d like those removed as well.
If you disconnect from your partner, they lose access to your Moments, and a future partner won’t see Moments from before you connected.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct data that’s wrong or incomplete
- Delete your data (or delete your account yourself in the app)
- Withdraw consent for optional processing, such as notifications
- Nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you die or become unable to (a right under India’s DPDP Act)
- Complain: first to our Grievance Officer below, and if you’re not satisfied, to the Data Protection Board of India or your local data protection authority
To make a request, email teamdappling@gmail.com from the address on your Dappling account so we can confirm it’s you. We’ll respond within the time the law requires.
Age requirement
Dappling is only for people aged 18 and over. We don’t knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 is using Dappling, contact us and we’ll delete their account.
Security
We protect your data with measures including hashed passwords, encrypted connections, private photo storage with time-limited links, and limits on repeated requests. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password and keep it private.
Changes to this policy
When Dappling changes, this policy may change too. If we make a meaningful change, we’ll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
